The Perfect Weekend Look

An invitation to get together with friends and family for a casual catch up can often leave us in fashion limbo. One of the most frequent questions I am asked by clients is how to nail the ‘smart casual’ look.

As a general rule with smart casual dressing I like to pair tailored or more classic shapes and accessories with slouchier and relaxed styles. Think of it as an equation. Smart piece plus a casual piece equals smart casual!

Here’s my take on a few great looks that are effortless but make a statement.

Play with denim.

The skirt is my smarter piece here and the printed tee and distressed jacket give it some personality. It’s fun to mix in colour with any look and an easy way to do it is with accessories, these shoes pop and would make even a black on black look stand out.

Get into gingham

Gingham will be the print of Autumn Winter so why not get a head start with these great tailored pants, they are quite light weight so a perfect tran-seasonal option. Thinking back to my equation, dressy pants, paired with the casual tee and shoes and you have smart casual.  One of my all time favourite combos is a tailored pant with a casual tee. Substitute the print for a plain for more versatility with your look.

Slouchy pants and heels

If you haven’t tried this already I highly recommend you give it a go. This whole look is super casual, the jacket adds the smart element but add in a casual heel with it and you elongate your legs.

Classic jeans and a nice top

Keep this classic look from becoming too casual by choosing a great dark-wash denim (I love high waisted). I kept this look really simple but it would also look great paired with a casual heel and a feature earring moving into the evening.

Feeling feminine

The fabric and tee sleeves of this dress make it the perfect option for a casual look. I’ve accessorized it with tan accessories as black would be too heavy. A flat sandal would also work here as would a straw hat and rattan accessories.
